Freqently Asked Questions

How successful are these exercises?

More than 98% of patients receive resolution of their heel pain with this program. And best of all, you'll relieve your pain because you're doing it right.

How long will this program take to work?

Resolution of symptoms can be achieved as early as within a week or two weeks. The average time to resolution is 2 to 3 months. If extreme symptoms have been present for a long time treatment can take up to 6 months. While the period of time to full resolution may appear long, this program is the only way to actually eliminate the underlying cause of you heel pain.

Is it possible that I have tried this treatment already?

It is very unlikely that you have already tried this treatment in the manner that described in this video.

Why wasn't this treatment given to me by my health care provider?

Several reasons. Most health care providers are not well acquainted with this treatment in the format that Dr. Amis has refined, despite his attempts to spread the word through traditional scholarly means over the past two decades. Even when a physician understands and adopts this form of treatment, it requires much of their office time to demonstrate the mechanics of the technique to patients. As a result, patients don't understand or appreciate the efficacy of the treatment, which leads to noncompliance. And finally, physicians and patients alike are inclined to want “widgets” (devices like orthotics, heel cushions or cups, or braces) and quick fixes (procedures like injections, oral medications, or surgery). In today's world it's rare for an orthopaedic surgeon or health care provider to give information only, especially when it means patients have to get involved in their own care and that treatment may take time for pain relief to occur.

Will I need any extra equipment that I would need to purchase?

No, there is no special equipment needed. This exercise program can be done anywhere, at anytime.

How involved are these exercises?

The exercises are very simple, and that is really one of the most important features of this program. Simplicity leads to improved compliance.

If the exercises are so simple, why not just tell me what they are?

Explaining the exercises is easy. In fact, only a short portion of the video is devoted to explaining the regimen. The remainder explains the mechanics behind the exercises, which is critical to your success with the program.

I have already done physical therapy. What makes the exercises in this DVD different?

This treatment is similar to physical therapy, but it is focused on the one essential mechanical dysfunction without all the other extra modes of treatment that can be confusing. Simple and targeted exercises yield the best result.

Will the exercises help me if I have already had surgery and failed?

The program will be just as effective as long as no new problems have resulted from the surgery and your pain is similar to the pain you had prior to the surgery. Any problems resulting from the surgery, such as nerve injury, will not be addressed by this program.

Why is this presented in a video format?

To understand this program fully, you need to see the exercises demonstrated in the proper format. Moreover, a full understanding of the causative mechanics of heel pain is essential to the success of the program. A health care provider is capable of presenting this concept, but this rarely happens. The video is an excellent, inexpensive way to present this information.

How long is the video?

The video, originally produced in 1995, runs 14 minutes. Because there have been two revisions to the original, Dr. Amis provides a nine-minute Q&A section that will give you all the information you need.

“I'd been struggling with plantar fasciitis and saw another physician who tried cortisone injections and orthotics, which seemed to make the condition worse. I even stopped running for several months. Then I got the video and followed the recommendations for the six-month schedule. It really worked well. I was back to jogging within a month and I continue to do the exercises each day. I’d highly recommend your course of care to anyone with plantar fasciitis.”
